Vasiakhi DnD Launches Walk

On Saturday 26th April, the India Association held our annual Vaisakhi Dinner & Dance fundraiser, at the Riverside Venue in Cranford.

Each year the event raises money for a different charitable cause, but this year, we were raising funds for a charity walk being carried out by our very own India Association Chairman Bobby Grewal. ‘Bobby’s Walk Full Circle’ is a 2,600 mile walk across India, from Kanyakumari in the south, up to Delhi in the North Werst of India. Bobby and his support team (including India Association Join Secretary and Walk Director, Dr Rajan Bhanot), a driver, a chef and a physiotherapist will accompany Bobby on his five month journey, starting in late October 2015.

The Vaisakahi event was the official launch of Bobby’s Walk Full Circle. Guests were treated to a three course Indian meal, dancing, an auction and raffle, as well as speeches from our special guests, Mr Sukhdev S Sidhu, (Minister of Co-ordination at India House) and Professor Colin Green of Northwick Park Research Hospital.

Bobby also made an emotional speech, about his reasons for doing the walk and how the support of the India Association, his friends and his family have helped him prepare for the challenges ahead. Bobby said of the occasion;

where ever my gaze falls in this beautifully decorated banqueting hall, I see nothing but my very nearest and dearest friends. For many many years, I have wanted to thank you all by name, but I know I am bound to forget to name you all and I do not want to miss a single one, so collectively, my deepest most affectionate thanks to all of you for your support, in the past, tonight and in times to come.”

There was an extremely positive response from guests, some of whom made additional donations on the evening and offered their support to Bobby and the team.

With the generous support of guests, sponsors and donors, the event raised £11000 for Bobby’s Walk Full Circle, which we are delighted with. This takes us just that little bit closer to reaching our fundraising goal of £1,500,000 for the British Asian Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and other charities in the UK and abroad.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, from the India Association volunteers and guests, to our sponspors (named below).

We will be posting photographs and video from the event in the next couple of days, but in the meantime, please feel free to leave your feedback and upload your photographs from the event to our facebook page:
