The India Association held a gala Vaisakhi Dinner & Dance at Crown Conference Centre, Ruislip. The gala dinner was hosted to celebrate the festival of Vaisakhi and to inaugurate the “Parliament 2 Parliament Walk” which will be undertaken by the Chairman, Mr. Balwant Grewal, at the age of 72?
On June 4 2008 Balwant (Bobby) Singh Grewal will set off on an epic 500 mile walk from the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh towards his destination, the English Houses of Parliament, which he will reach five weeks later on 9th July 2008. Bobby is undertaking this walk to raise money for research into bowel cancer and other bowel diseases at St Mark’s Hospital Harrow, a hospital unique in the UK. Over 300 people attended the dinner, together with dignitaries from both Houses of Parliament.
The function began with Dalbir Sandhu who introduced the guests on the main table, Mr Domininic Grieves MP, Bobby Grewal (IA Chairman) Mr Virendra Sharma MP, Dr Rami Ranger MBE, Mr K D Rao (Air India - Regional Manager), Mr C B Patel, Dr Simon Gabe, Mr Jasbir Sachar, Mr Rakesh Dubai (Cultural Officer - Indian Commission) followed by a cultural programme. In a speech, Bobby Grewal acknowledged the dignitaries and all guests present. Bobby announced the Parliament 2 Parliament Walk and urged everyone for their help and support in any way to raise funds & awareness for Bowel Cancer at St Marks Institute, Harrow. Dominic Grieves said that we should all unite and support this noble cause and Bobby Grewal. Dr Simon Gabe thanked the India Association, and in particular Mr. Grewal for highlighting the need for research into this dreaded disease in the 21st century. Mr. Virendra Sharma, MP for Ealing Southall, praised all those who put back into society, from where we take so much. The Vote of Thanks was given by Dr Rami Ranger MBE, thanked all those present and the Executive Committee of India Association that made the function a success. He also praised the Chairman; Mr. Bobby Grewal who sacrificed so much at the young age of 72 selflessly for others and that Mr. Grewal’s contribution will be remembered for years to come. The Grand Raffle prizes donated were tickets from Air India, British Airways and others from members of India Association, thanks to Mrs Suman Mohan & Family to organise the raffle. Finally, the guests danced to the music of Casbah Road Show UK (Harry Randhawa) till late.
